Our Story
Hi, I’m Souraya, and here is my story of how I created Funutrition.
It all started with my youngest son who has a cow milk protein allergy and who stubbornly refuses to eat everything except a few chosen foods. As a parent, I want to keep my kid healthy by providing him with plenty of nutritious foods, without forcing him to eat which could create another problem. I am also a qualified nutritional therapist, so recognised the importance of good nutrition for his growth and development.
I found that the best way was to incorporate a fun element to the experience:
- I tried playing with food! I did this at times out of regular eating times.
- I played with him so that he sees that I am happy to have food on my hands and make a mess.
- I linked and related food with his hero, for example: by eating your protein, you will get stronger and develop more muscles like superman and, ‘proved’ it to him by letting him try to push a table with my help without letting him notice.
Here is where the idea of developing an app (that allow kids to learn more about nutrition in their own time and in entertaining ways) came from. It allows children to discover interesting facts about the food they eat, without ignoring the importance of understanding the relationship between diet and exercise.
I think that it is a ‘must’ to teach kids how to eat healthy as early as possible. And, with the uprising of technology and the use of electronic devices, figured that an effective way of doing this is through an app that is fun and entertaining to use.
I am an experienced clinical nutritionist with a BSc in Food and Nutrition from the American University of Beirut, achieved in 2003.
